It was twenty-seven years ago today, January 28, 1986 that the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger was lost when just 73 seconds into the shuttle flight, the spacecraft broke apart, leading to the deaths of all seven crew members.

I still remember the beautiful and touching words of President Reagan on that sad loss:

"We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of Earth' to 'touch the face of God."
