Of course, she's not actually the mother of the disturbed man that caused so much heartbreak in a small New England town, but she can help enlighten us regarding mentally unstable kids that fall through the cracks of our mental health care system.

She's a mother who understands what it's like to be the parent of a disturbed child and she speaks out about how we need to repair our system for helping those who suffer from mental illness in order to avert tragedies like the one in Newtown, Connecticut.

Liza Long, a writer based in Boise, says it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness.

And in an article in the huffington post, she does just that.

And it may be the one hope we have for finally putting an end to (or at least greatly reducing) the senseless violence perpetrated by angry and mentally ill young men that destroy so many lives.
