.38 Special has decided not to play SeaWorld for ethical reasons.

Their decision comes on the heels of the cancellation in the past week of SeaWorld concerts by REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick and Heart.

The cancellations were sparked by the CNN film, "Blackfish", which documents the dark side of orcas living in captivity at the marine park, described at the official film website with these words:

"A mesmerizing psychological thriller with a killer whale at its centre, Blackfish is the first film since Grizzly Man to show how nature can get revenge on man when pushed to its limits."

From 38 Special's Facebook page:

"Due to concerns raised by the CNN documentary "Blackfish," .38 Special will be canceling its scheduled March 9th concert at Seaworld. We appreciate the outpouring of support and especially apologize to our Orlando fans. We will try and schedule another performance in your area in the near future."

An article at ultimateclassicrock.com reveals that unlike Cheap Trick and REO Speedwagon, .38 Special cite ‘Blackfish’ as the specific reason for their cancellation.

Heart was right with 38 Special, tweeting on December 8th: Heart has chosen to decline their forthcoming performance at SeaWorld on 2/9/14 due to the controversial documentary film 'Black Fish'.

In addition, animal activist Joan Jett sent a cease-and-desist letter to the park’s CEO last week asking him to stop playing ‘I Love Rock ‘N Roll’ at SeaWorld’s shows.

Way to go, guys!
