Two Monmouth County residents are in a heap of trouble after they hid 1,200 bags of heroin and 22-grams of cocaine underneath the engine compartment of their pickup truck on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Wednesday, according to the MC Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Torres of Long Branch and his passenger Alexander Mazza of Eatontown are charged with two counts of possession of CDS and two counts with intent to distribute CDS.

An investigation of the 2014 Dodge pickup truck January 24 by responding agencies occurred as the two men were stopped at Exit 109 on the GSP in Middletown.

After getting consent to search the truck from the driver, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team found the drugs.

The Dodge pickup truck and $4,500.00 were seized and Torres and Mazza were arrested, then brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officers led the investigation efforts with the assistance of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI Task Force of Red Bank.
“The heroin epidemic continues to be a serious and deadly problem. As members of law enforcement we are committed to take action when it comes to combating the proliferation of narcotics in Monmouth County,” Sheriff Shaun Golden said. “This great example of exceptional police work helps keep drugs off of our streets, and enhances the safety in communities where our children live and play. I commend everyone involved in the arrests for their collaborative efforts.”
