The Ocean County Prosecutors Office has confirmed to the Townsquare News Network that 52 year old Mark Tanouye was in possession of what appeared to be a small caliber weapon.  The officer was responding to a disturbance call at the restaurant on Atlantic City Boulevard.  According to Ocean County Executive Assistant Prosecutor Michael Paulhus, the officer was on routine patrol when he encountered Tanouye creating the disturbance.

Paulhus says “he got out of his patrol car and confronted the man in the parking lot.  The man ignored the officer’s demands to drop the weapon.  The officer opened fire.”

The investigation continues.
